Andover Bank recently announced that Michael Benson has been hired to fill the position of Senior Vice President, Chief Credit Officer.

Benson brings 37 years of experience to Andover at a time when the bank is strategically focusing on business banking and building out a long-range strategy for growth.

“We are very excited to add Mike to our senior management team,” said Steve Varckette, President and CEO of Andover Bank. “His extensive experience as an effective leader will better position Andover Bank in business banking."

In Mike’s previous employment, he was the Market Manager for a bank in Akron and was responsible for building and managing a commercial lending team while serving as a member of the bank’s Loan Committee. Mike has excellent communication skills, collaborating closely with clients and staff.

Mike received his MBA from Kent State University and has an undergraduate degree in Economics from Kalamazoo College. He also graduated from the National Commercial Lending School located in Norman, Oklahoma.

Mike lives in Streetsboro, Ohio with his wife Carol. They have three children, Chelsea, Hannah, and Thomas; along with two grandchildren, Silas and Finn.

Mike is a former chairman of the Akron Better Business Bureau and is a current member of the loan committee for Cascade Capital in Akron, Ohio. In his free time, he is active in his church and plays guitar and bass.
